How to Connect the Crowded MCP with ChatGPT

Why connect to the Crowded MCP?

Manage your Crowded account (balances, accounts, collections, spending and more) conversationally within ChatGPT! If you are already using ChatGPT to power your daily tasks, adding Crowded as an app or plugin is a no-brainer.

Here’s a few reasons why you should connect Crowded’s MCP to ChatGPT 

• Ask questions in plain language. Check balances, pull transaction history, or review pending payment requests.
• Combine Connectors. Connect all the platforms your nonprofit uses to ChatGPT, and allow them to work off each other – like never before!
• Handle routine admin faster. Freeze a lost card, invite a new member, or send collection reminders directly from a conversation with your assistant.
• Stay on top of chapter finances. Have Claude summarize recent transactions or flag unusual activity so you don’t have to review everything line by line yourself.

Step by Step Guide to Connecting Crowded to ChatGPT

Enabling the Crowded Plugin on Individual Plans 

1. Log in to ChatGPT, click Settings, and then Plugins. Open ChatGPT to Plugins
2. Click Developer Mode, and enable “Developer mode”
3. Return to the plugins menu, and click Browse Plugins
4. Next to the search bar on the top right, click the plus button to add a new plugin
5. Name the plugin – we recommend naming it “Crowded”
6. Under Connection, input this server url exactly https://mcp.crowdedfinance.com/mcp 
7. Keep OAuth as the authentication, and click the box that you understand and want to continue with adding the MCP, and click Create.
8. A new window will open asking you to sign in with Crowded to connect the two accounts.
9. Your browser should open the Crowded login page. 
10. Log in to Crowded with your desired authentication details (SMS, WhatsApp or Passkey)
11. Select the Crowded account you’d like to connect to ChatGPT (If you are an admin on multiple accounts, select the account you want to use for that Claude session)
12. You’re good to go!

Enabling the Crowded App on Business Plans 

For those on Team or Enterprise plans, Custom Connectors must be added by an organization administrator. Once it is added, any member in the organization can access the Crowded connector in their Connectors.

1. Open ChatGPT
2. Navigate to Settings and click Apps
3. Click Advanced Settings and enable Developer mode
4. Return to Settings and click Apps, and click Create
5. Name the plugin – we recommend naming it “Crowded”
6. Under Connection, input this server url exactly https://mcp.crowdedfinance.com/mcp 
7. Keep OAuth as the authentication, and click the box that you understand and want to continue with adding the MCP and click Create to finish
8. To publish the app to the entire organization, go to Workspace Settings, then Apps, then Drafts, and click Publish.
9.  Review the safety warning – Crowded’s app includes write actions (like freezing a card), so this will show up as a warning to review before you confirm. Enterprise/Edu admins can also use Configure Actions to choose exactly which actions are allowed, and Configure Access to limit which teams or roles can use the app.
10.  Once published, Crowded shows up as an approved app for the workspace, and members will see it labeled “custom” in their own Apps settings

Connect to Crowded App across the plan

Once the app is enabled, any organization member who is also an admin on Crowded can connect to the Crowded app and start managing the organization finances conversationally. Contacts can also connect to Crowded, but their permissions will be limited to viewing their own transactions, Collect payments, etc.

6. You’re good to go!

How to Edit ChatGPT’s Access to the Crowded App

1. Open Claude and navigate to Settings, then Apps
2. Click on “Crowded” – or however you named the connector
3. Under Preferences, choose an option under Ask permission: Always ask, Any changes, Important actions (the default), or Never ask.
4. Admins can further restrict specific actions workspace-wide from Workspace Settings, then Apps, then Enabled, using the ••• menu next to Crowded and selecting Action control
