Ending your term as the point person for your organization? If yes, its important to hand over ownership of your org’s Crowded account to your replacement.
This way, your organization can continue banking*, collecting, and spending uninterrupted.
☝️ If you do not hand over your account, your name and personal information, including SSN will continue to be tied to the account.
How to transfer ownership of a Crowded account
Transferring account ownership is easy, and can be initiated in just a few steps.
First things first, the incoming account owner should already be an admin on the Crowded account.
This gives the new Account Owner access to the account while the official signatory change is taking place.
If they are not registered on Crowded at all, invite them manually as an admin here.
They will need to accept the emailed invitation and complete a short registration to be eligible to receive ownership of the account.
If the incoming Account Owner is already a contact, follow these steps to set them as an Admin:
- Log in to Crowded on a computer and click Contacts on the sidebar.
- Check the box next to their name, and select Change Role at the bottom of the screen.
- Select Admin and confirm
Once the desired new account owner is an Admin, we’re ready to start with the handover process.
- Click on the Profile & Settings button on the bottom left corner and select the Organization Settings page. Open straight to this page →
- Click Transfer Ownership on the Account Owner line.
- Select the admin t0 transfer the account ownership to.
Next, a document will pop up, which requires both the incoming and outgoing account owners’ signatures in order to authorize the account ownership transfer.
Read and sign the “Meeting Minutes” document and complete the flow.
The requested incoming account owner will then receive an email with a specific link to accept the account ownership transfer.
For the Incoming Account Owner
The new owner of the Crowded account will be sent an email with a unique link, which will prompt them to fill in the following information:
- Enter their social security number (SSN) and residential address.
- Sign the Meeting Minutes document that authorizes the account transfer
- Upload a picture (not a scan!) of the front and back of a government-issued photo ID card to verify identity.
- Enter the email of a third party in your organization who can attest to this ownership transfer. They will also be sent the Meeting Minutes document to sign
Once all parties have signed, the account handover will be underway.
Occasionally, account handovers require additional documentation for identity or address verification. New account owners will receive follow-up communication if this is required.
The process can take up to 3-5 business days.
We will notify both parties by email when the transfer is complete.
